About IIT JAM

IIT JAM (Joint Admission Test for M.Sc.) is an online entrance exam conducted on an all-India level. It is conducted by the IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) every year, and it comes under the MHRD (Ministry of Human Resources Development). The IITs offer a wide range of postgraduate courses, and the IIT JAM entrance exam offers a way into it. Interested candidates have to crack this entrance exam to get a seat in any of the seven IITs for the four semesters M.Sc. program, comprising 2000+ seats. It is important to point out that the IISc (Indian Institute of Science), Bangalore also offers integrated Ph.D. courses. JAM is conducted online, once a year. The exam duration is of 3 hours.

Who can take IIT JAM and the important dates?

Anyone looking to pursue a career in research and frontier areas of science can take up this joint entrance exam. From the 2nd week of September, the application form for the IIT JAM exam will be made available, while the 3rd week of October, will be the last date of submitting the form online from the 2nd week of January, the admit cards will be released. Every year, the exam is conducted on the 3rd week of the February month. the exam will be conducted by IIT Roorkee. The results will be announced on the 4th week of March.

IIT JAM Eligibility Criteria

If you wish to appear for the IIT JAM exam, you need to hold a bachelor’s degree, with a minimum aggregate score of 55% (for general category) and 50% (for SC/ST/PWD categories). Regarding the aggregate score, it is important to point out that all the subjects should be considered Plus, there is no age limit for this exam. For Indians and foreign nationals can appear for the IIT JAM exam.

IIT JAM Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

There are three different sections in the IIT JAM exam papers, comprising 60 questions in total. They are- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): Each question comes with four options, and one of them is the correct answer. Multiple Select Questions (MSQ): Each question comes with four options; one or more options can be the correct answer. Numerical Answer Type (NAT): These questions do not come with any options, but you have to solve them. Section A contains 30 questions, featuring MCQ and MSQ question types, each of 1 or 2 marks. Negative marking: For questions having 1 mark, 1/3 of marks will be deducted, whereas 2/3 of marks will be deducted for the 2 marks questions. In section B, you will find 10 questions, each having 2 marks. There is no negative marking in this section.

IIT JAM Syllabus

The IIT JAM has seven papers, they are- Biotechnology (BL), Mathematics (MA), Geology (GG), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Mathematical Statistics (MS), and Physics (PH). An IIT JAM candidate can appear in any of the two papers but at two different sessions.

IIT JAM fees

For the general category, the exam fee is INR 1500 for one test paper and INR 2100 for two test papers, whereas for the female (all categories)/SC/ST/PWD categories it is INR 750 for one test paper and INR 1050 for two test papers. CSIR NET
CSIR NET is an entrance exam to select Indian nationals for junior research fellowship and lecturers jobs in different subjects including Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences and Mathematical Sciences. The all-India exam is conducted by CSIR or the Council of Scientific Research Fellowship. There is only one paper in CSIR NET exam that includes multiple choice questions. June and December are the two months, when the exam is conducted. The duration of the exam is around 3 hours, and the candidates have an option to choose from online and offline mode.
CSIR NET exam Important Dates

Candidates who want to take the exam should be aware of the important dates. The notification of CSIR NET and the availability of the forms will occur in the 2nd week of March and 2nd week of December. The candidates should carefully fill the form and submit it by the end of 2nd week of April and 3rd week of September. In case, candidates have to apply for center change, they have to apply by 3rd week of April and 3rd week of October. The list of the candidates who have registered for the exam would be out by the 3rd week of May or 3rd week of November. The admit cards of the candidates will be released on the official website by the 2nd week of May and 1st week of December. Finally, the results of the CSIR NET exam would be declared by the 1st week of July and 4th week of December.

CSIR NET Exam fee details

The candidates interested to apply for the exam, should carefully fill the form and pay the set fees online. The application fees of the general category candidates are Rs 1000, for OBC-NCL candidates, it is Rs 500, and for the SC/ST/PWD, it is Rs 250. The fees can be paid through any mode including internet banking, mobile wallets, or debit/credit cards.

CSIR NET Exam Eligibility criteria
The candidates applying for the CSIR NET exam should be of Indian nationality. If they are applying for JRF category, they should be 28 years of age. However, the updated information about the different categories candidates should be checked in the latest exam notification released. Candidates who did not complete their Bachelor’s degree cannot apply for the exam. a General candidates from M.Sc and equivalent degree should hold 55% marks and SC/ST/PwD candidates must hold at least 50% marks. Candidates who are in the final year can apply under the category of RA or Result Awaited.
CSIR NET Exam Pattern
The candidates appearing for the CSIR NET Exam can choose from paper and pen based exam and computer based exam. The medium of the exam can be chosen from English and Hindi. The duration is 3 hours, and there are two papers, one is held in the morning and other one in the afternoon. There are 200 marks total with all multiple choice questions, and there is no negative marks given for any wrong answer. Paper 1 of the CSIR NET includes 50 questions, the maximum marks are 100, and the time given is 1 hour. Paper 2 includes 150 questions, the maximum marks are 200, and the time limit is 2 hours.
CSIR NET Exam Syllabus
Paper 1 of the CSIR NET includes generic questions as the intention is to test the candidate’s knowledge in the research and teaching aptitude. Basically, this section will include questions from general awareness, comprehension, reasoning ability, and divergent thinking. Paper 2 of the CSIR NET includes questions from different subjects that are selected while applying, basically from the Bachelor’s and Master’s education.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national comprehensive test to assess candidates in different subjects including engineering, architecture, technology, commerce, science, and arts. GATE is conducted by IITs (Roorkee, Madras, Bombay, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Delhi, and Kanpur) and IISc (Bangalore) on behalf of various national education associations including the Government of India, Ministry of Education, National Coordination Board, and Department of Higher Education. GATE is a computer-based test that is conducted online in different cities in India and six cities out of India. The scores of this CBT exam are valid for three years.

Who takes CUET PG and Important Dates?

GATE helps candidates to get admission in IISc and IITs and get PSU jobs. Candidates cracking the exam can be accepted in the fellowship programs offered by the top-notch research centres of the country. The notification of GATE is released on the official website – around 3rd week of July. Candidates can get the application forms online from – 2nd week of September. They can download, fill, and submit the form by 1st week of October. In case, there is delay, they have to pay a fine and submit by the 2nd week of October.
